Guys, I hate to be a buzzkill on the Pokemon Go train, but things have gotten a little out of hand lately. On my way to work this morning, I watched a woman drive her car into oncoming traffic while she was playing Pokemon on her phone. Thankfully, no one got hurt but it was still really scary.

I have heard stories on the news about people getting into accidents, trespassing, and here in Japan, there are signs on almost all temples asking you to not catch Pokemon on temple grounds. So today's lesson will be a notice my old language school posted for the students who are playing Pokemon Go.

Even if you don’t play the game, or you are a very careful Pokemon trainer, these rules can help you learn some Japanese while we talk about how to be a bit more careful while playing.

ポケモンGOに関する注意点
ぽけもんごー　にかんする　ちゅういてん
Important Points Concerning Pokemon Go
Literally: “Pokemon Go + concerning + important points”

1. 歩きながらスマホはしない
いち. あるきながら　すまほ　は　しない
1. Don’t use your smartphone while walking
Literally: “while walking + smartphone + は + don’t do”
Note: ながら is used with the ます stem of a verb and means "while doing verb." So 聞きながら（ききながら）is "while listening."

ポケモンGOは位置情報を使うゲームの為、実際に移動する必要があります。
ぽけもんごー　は　いち　じょうほう　を　つかう　げーむ　の　ため、じっさいに　いどう　する　ひつよう　が　あります。
Pokemon Go is a game that uses location information, so movement is needed.
Literally: “Pokemon Go + は + location + information + を + use + game + の + ため + in practice + movement + do + need + が + あります”

しかし、スマホを操作しながらの移動は危ないので絶対にやめましょう。
しかし、すまほ　を　そうさ　しながら　の　いどう　は　あぶない　ので　ぜったいに　やめましょう。
However, since it is dangerous to move around while operating a smartphone, let’s stop.
Literally: “however + smartphone + を + operate + while doing + の + movement + は + dangerous + since + definitely + let’s stop."
Note: The ending ましょう is used to mean "let's do" which makes this notice a bit friendlier and less aggressive.

スマホを操作する時は必ず立ち止まって操作しましょう。
すまほ　を　そうさ　する　とき　は　かならず　たちとまって　そうさ　しましょう。
When operating your smartphone, let’s operate it while standing still.
Literally: “smartphone + を + operate + do + when + は + certainly + stand still + operate + let’s do”

2. 迷惑になるような行為は避ける
に. めいわく　になる　ような　こうい　は　さける
2. Avoid becoming a nuisance.
Literally: “nuisance + become + like + act + は + avoid”

ポケモンGOでは、警察署や病院・神社などがジムやポケストップになっています。
ぽけもんGO　では、けいさつしょ　や　びょういん・じんじゃ　など　が　じむ　や　ぽけすとっぷ　に　なっています。
In Pokemon Go, police stations, hospitals, shrines, etc, have become Gyms and Pokestops.
Literally: “Pokemon Go + では + police station + や + hospital + shrine + etc + が + gym + や + Pokestop + に + become”

ジムやポケストップがあるからといって、用がないときにはそのような公共の場所には立ち入らないようにしましょう。
じむ　や　ぽけすとっぷ　が　ある　からといって、　よう　が　ない　とき　には　その　ような　こうきょう　の　ばしょ　には　たちいらない　ように　しましょう。
Just because it is a Gym or Pokestop, let’s not enter these public places if we don’t have business there.
Literally: “gym + や + Pokestop + が + ある + just because + business + が + don’t + when + には + that + like + public + の + place + には + don’t enter + like + let’s do”
Note: からといって is a grammar point that means "just because..." or "while it may be true that..."

3. 熱中症・日射病に注意
さん. ねっちゅうしょう・にっしゃびょう　に　ちゅうい
3. Be aware of heatstroke/sunstroke
Literally: “heatstroke + sunstroke + に + attention”

長時間ポケモンを探していると熱中症や日射病になる可能性があります。
ちょうじかん　ぽけもん　を　さがしている　と　ねっちゅうしょう　や　にっしゃびょう　に　なる　かのうせい　が　あります。
There is a possibility of getting heatstroke and sunstroke when you are searching for Pokemon for a long time.
Literally: “long time + Pokemon + を + searching + と + heatstroke + や + sunstroke + に + become + possibility + が + あります”

帽子を被って日差しよけをしたり、こまめに水分補給をするようにしましょう。
ぼうし　を　かぶって　ひざし　よけ　を　したり、こまめに　すいぶんほきゅう　を　する　ように　しましょう。
Let’s wear a hat to protect ourselves from the sun’s rays, take care to re-hydrate, and the like.
Literally: “hat + を + wear + sunlight + protect + を + do + take care + hydration + を + do + like + let’s do”
Note: ～たり～たり is used to list things. For example: at the party I ate, drank and other things would be 食べたり飲んだりしました

4. 夜間のプレイには注意
よん. やかん　の　ぷれい　には　ちゅうい
4. Be careful playing at night
Literally: “night + の + play + には + attention”

夜間は視界も悪く場所によっては危険な場合もあり、思わぬ事故や犯罪に巻き込まれる可能性もあります。
やかん　は　しかい　も　わるく　ばしょ　によって　は　きけんな　ばあい　も　あり、おもわぬ　じこ　や　はんざい　に　まきこまれる　かのうせい　も　あります。
At night, because of worsened vision, in some places there is a chance of danger; as well as the possibility to become involved with unforeseen accidents and crime.
Literally: “night + は + vision + も + bad + place + によって + は + dangerous + situation + も + あり + unforeseen + accident + や + crime + に + involved with + possibility + も + あります”

プレイのためだけに外出するのはやめましょう。
ぷれい　の　ため　たけに　がいしゅつ　する　のは　やめましょう。
Let’s not go out only for the purpose of playing.
Literally: “play + の + purpose + only + go out + do + のは + let’s stop”

実際に、海外では事故や犯罪に巻き込まれるケースも報告されています。
じっさいに、かいがい　では　じこ　や　はんざい　に　まきこまれる　けーす　も　ほうこく　されています。
In practice, there have been reports of accidents and crime overseas.
Literally: “in practice + overseas + では + accident + や + crime + に + involved with + case + も + reported”

必ず周囲の安全を確認してからプレイしてください。
かならす　しゅうい　の　あんぜん　を　かくにん　して　から　ぷれい　して　ください。
Certainly, please play after making sure of the safety of your surroundings.
