In the last lesson we introduced the Chinese Zodiac---an animal that corresponds to the year you were born and tells about your personality traits. In this lesson, we will go over some more of these animals and the words for each personality trait that goes with them.

First of all, here is the chart again so you can tell which animal represents your birth year.

The Kanji are the Chinese characters (some of which correspond to Japanese) and the hiragana in parentheses are the Japanese animal names:

Like a monkey, many of these people get flustered, and they can't relax unless they're doing something.

特徴：直感型。
とくちょう：　ちょっかん　がた。
Characteristics: Intuitive.

Smart.

Scrupulous.

内心を明かさない。
ないしん　を　あかさない。
Doesn’t reveal their inner thoughts.

Gives up quickly.

粘り強くない。
ねばりづよくない。
Fickle.

鶏がモチーフだが、酉年だけは由来がよくわからない。プライドが高いのも特徴。
にわとり　が　モチーフ　だが、　とりどし　だけ　は　ゆらい　が　よく　わからない。　プライド　が　たかい　の　　も　とくちょう。
Although it is represented by a chicken motif, this year's origins are not well understood. Another characteristic is a lot of pride.

まさにイノシシのようにイケイケ型だが、とんでもなく我慢強い人が多い。

Do you think your personality corresponded to your animal? Personally I don’t think the words ‘elegant’ or ‘quiet’ are accurate for me at all!
